Caroline and Dave say: The Local Songwriters’ Showcase at the last Upsurge Festival in 2022 was the sleeper hit of the week. We all discovered
that there were a remarkable number of talented songwriters in our midst. This time Merv Pinny has drawn on a new group of talented songwriters and musicians to entertain us.
Hear some of the best songwriters in the Bay of Islands, including Kerikeri musician Merv Pinny, Whangarei-based American singer/songwriter Maggie Coco and Irish-born, Northland-based singer songwriter Oisin Simperingham perform some of their recent work and their favourite songs in the relaxed and intimate environment of Paihia’s Blue Door restaurant/cafe/bar and Kerikeri’s Turner Centre Bar. Curated by songwriter Merv Pinny, you will hear a range of music from rock to blues to jazz to folk, and learn more about the inspiration the songwriters get from their home and the people who live here.
Merv Pinny is an alternative rock artist. After his song OB (can you hear the children cry) went viral in 2016, Merv’s music has been streamed over 30 million times on different platforms.
Maggie Coco is known for her emotional, multi-sensory show Science for Psychopaths featured original music and improvised collaborations with audience , and won an award for Best Music Performance at Auckland Fringe 2021.
Oisin Simperingham lives in Whangarei and writes folk-based original songs.
Don’t miss this fantastic local event.
