Caroline and Dave say: This event is a must for everyone interested in the rich history of our Ngāpuhi ancestors. Melinda and Te Kapua have written a fascinating book packed with history, adventure and aroha.
Join an intimate conversation at the Turner Centre bar with Melinda Webber and Te Kapua O’Connor as they discuss their intriguing research into Te Tai Tokerau tūpuna (ancestors) for their book, A Fire in the Belly of Hineāmaru.
They will be interviewed by local museum curator Chanel Clarke.
From peacemakers and strategists to explorers and entrepreneurs, the tūpuna of the North are an inspiration to the people of Te Tai Tokerau. This remarkable book introduces a new generation to twenty-four of those tūpuna – Nukutawhiti and Hineāmaru, Hongi Hika and Te Ruki Kawiti, and many more. Through whakapapa and kōrero, waiata and pepeha, we learn about their actions, their places, their values, and their aspirations.
This session is a must for students, those interested in local history, and anyone who calls Te Tai Tokerau home.
