Iconic filmmaker

Gaylene’s Take
12pm Saturday 14 September
Turner Centre Bar
Tickets: Full $25, Concession $20
Duration: 50 minutes

Caroline and Dave say: Dave was lucky enough to work with Gaylene as a co-writer on the TV series Hope and Wire. Gaylene’s warm personality and great sense of humour shines through in her book. We can’t wait to chat with an old friend.

Dame Gaylene Preston (War Stories our Mothers Never Told Us, My Year with Helen) talks about her informative and hilarous autobiography Gaylene’s Take.

This book brilliantly details Gaylene’s West Coast and Hawke’s Bay childhood as well as giving equally brilliant insights into her filmmaking career – from her first film made with patients of an English mental hospital throught to the glamour and chaos of Cannes and making a documentary about Helen Clark at the United Nations.

Dame Gaylene Preston will be joined by Upsurge co-director Dave Armstrong as they discuss Gaylene’s stellar career and the state of filmmaking in Aotearoa.
