Caroline and Dave say: We loved watching Lucy Dawber hilariously unpack the melodramatic world of the telenovela, at the same time telling a beautiful story about whānau and her wonderful Ecuadorian abuela (grandmother).
Passion, romance, betrayal, hairy chested men and eye patch-wearing villains. These are the staples of a good ‘Telenovela’. But how can a Kiwi, non-Spanish speaking, 3rd-generation Latina make sense of her own existence through these outlandish soap operas?
Using sketch comedy, confessional storytelling, and the help of a sexy philosophy lecturer, Lucy Dawber one by one unmasks and confronts life’s true bandidos: love, conflict, sex, money and family.
