Upsurge is excited to present this new work, created by local taitamariki (16-24 year-olds) about life in their Bay of Islands rohe. Developed with support of professional actors and musicians, Jamie McCaskill and Regan Taylor (Māori Sidesteps) and Carrie Green (Under the Vines), these talented taitamariki present their stories and music in their own words.

Tutor Jamie McCaskill (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Tamaterā, Te Ati Haunui-a-pāpārangi) is a founding member of The Māori Sidesteps. Jamie was awarded the Bruce Mason Award for Playwriting in 2013 and his Not in our Neighbourhood won Best new New Zealand Play at the 2015 Wellington Theatre Awards.

Carrie Green (Ngāti Porou) is an experienced stage and TV actor, recently appearing in the TVNZ hit dramedy Under the Vines. She was the winner of Outstanding New Playwright in 2016 and Actor of the Year at the 2019 Wellington Theatre Awards.

Regan Taylor (Ngāti Kahungunu, Te Arawa) is also a member of the Māori Sidesteps. A professional director, actor and tutor, Regan appeared at Upsurge in 2017 with his masked solo work SolOthello. . Regan often workshops new works with major theatre-makers in New Zealand and Australia.
