Caroline and Dave say: Last Upsurge’s Dancing as One with the RNZB was a sold-out triumph. We are delighted to have our national ballet company back and to see a new group of 100 local tamariki creating a dance work based on a story by a local author.
Join the Royal New Zealand Ballet and 100 tamariki from kura and local primary schools from around the Bay of Islands. Artists from RNZB will perform three works from their 2024 repertoire in the first half.
The tamariki will then create a dance work inspired by the children’s novel Hine and the Tohunga Portal, written by Whangarei novelist Ataria Sharman (Ngāti Kura), about a brother and sister who wander into an enchanted forest.
Performers include tamariki from Bay of Islands International Academy, Oromahoe, Kawakawa and Moerewa schools, and the Northern Dance Academy.
Supported by the Ministry of Education Creatives in Schools Scheme.
